Laurie Hawkins

Laurie Hawkins, the newest associate to join Underwood & Associates, has more than 14 years of senior level experience in both the public and private sectors of businesses and non-profit organizations. Laurie specializes in creating strategic fund development plans, organizational system analysis and design, and project management. She is well-versed in all fundraising functions with a focus on membership, grant writing, capital campaigns, feasibility studies, major gifts and annual giving.

In the non-profit arena Laurie has developed, implemented and expanded fund programs for a variety of organizations, such as A Reason to Survive (ARTS), Blue Sky Community Foundation, Junior Achievement, Pro-Kids, Partnerships with Industry, San Diego Center for Children, the Timken Museum of Art. In the public sector she actively participated in launching Health and Human Service Agency East Region’s Neighborhood for Kids initiative for foster youth. Laurie’s concentration is on building long-term partnerships between non-profit groups, individuals, foundations, corporations and public agencies to support and enhance community based services in San Diego.

During the first half of Laurie’s career she was a Special Education teacher, as well as an educational trainer and consultant to public schools, educational institutions and corporations. As a consultant she provided technical expertise on educational programs, curriculum development, teaching techniques and knowledge acquisition. Laurie holds a Masters degree in Special Education.
